Chords are the first, third and fifth notes of the scale played over and over.

Example; key of “C”

C=1, D=2, E=3, F=4,G=5, A=6 B=7

The notes of the C chord are C,E and G
If you look at your C chord on your guitar, you’ll see that those three notes make C chord.
