i’ve used to play the guitar a few years ago, up to grade 3. i know how to play the actual chords, but when do you actually strike the chords, is it to a beat, or to the rhythm? do you play play it to the time signature, or it just when you want. and can you strike it with your thumb, or a pick…i’m so lost, when i should know this.

WM asked:

Okay. I’d say that Im pretty good at guitar, but when It comes to writing my own music I use very basic chord progressions. How do I spice things up a bit? Any tips? How do I learn which chords go together? For example I have this song. Its simple- Dm A# C, F, and A…..

One more little question. When playing jazz what else can I add for an E major 7 song (jazz sounding)

glucas7 asked:

I’m a piano player trying to learn guitar and I’m trying to figure out the rhyme and reason behind guitar chords. Are there certain chords I should start with that are like the foundation of other chords, or is there some kind of appreciable pattern throughout the chords, or what? What chords should I start with?

Thanks so much.

I have some guitar tabs for Underoath, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and the Beatles, but I have no idea how to read them. Does anyone have a tutorial, or can anyone tell me how to read them and what to look for? I’m just learning to play an acoustic guitar, so any help would be very appreciated<3
